Hari-Interdomain Internet Routing

Current Internet is composed by tens of thousands of autonomous systems. An autonomous system is owned and administered by a single commercial entity. This paper describes the de-facto inter-domain routing protocol – BGP. It also tells us money is an issue for inter-domain routing. It makes clear different relationships between ASes. It explains why iBGP is used in intra-domain and how it works.
Why is BGP scalable? Is there any way to find a protocol to take the place of iBGP?
